Partner/owner Rick Hatch began his career in the oil heat industry in 1979 with a local oil company.  Here he met his future wife and business partner, Wanda, who started working in the office in 1983.  In 1987, Rick and Wanda were married, and shortly after, Wanda left the oil business to hone her office management and bookkeeping skills in a New London based doctor’s office.  In 1988 they had their first child, a son Kyle, and Wanda became a stay at home mom.  Three years later in 1991 they had their second child, Samantha.  In 1993 Rick branched out from the oil company to become self-employed with a local heating company.  In 1998 Wanda rejoined him and took charge of the office.  As 2004 rolled around, the two decided to go into business for themselves, and established their own HVAC and Energy Solution company, R&W Heating Energy Solutions.  Now, with Ricks’ 30 plus years of experience in the field, and Wanda's’ 20 plus years of expertise in the office, the pair has steadily built a successful, small business.  They keep up to date with continuous research into the latest and most innovative products and services, and with the addition of their children, their nephew, and employees who have become part of the family, R&W Heating Energy Solutions grows each year.

In 1999, Rick’s nephew Greg Chapel joined him and started his career in the HVAC field after completing his 8000 hour apprenticeship.  In 2004, he accompanied Rick and Wanda on their new business endeavor, and the three worked together to make the business grow.  With 15 years experience, Greg is a Lead Technician specializing in residential heating and holds an Unlimited Journeyman license.

Jeff Preston started his career in the HVAC field in 1995, at a family business in the northern region of New London County.  He too completed his 8000 hour apprenticeship, and in 2007, joined the R&W Heating crew.  With over 19 years experience, Jeff also holds an Unlimited Journeyman license, and is a Lead Technician specializing in Air Conditioning and heat pumps.

In his younger days, Kyle went on service calls, and helped the guys out on the weekends making dump runs.  In 2009, he was officially added to the family business as an apprentice.  He has now completed his 8000 apprenticeship and is now an HVAC technician holding an Unlimited Journeyman License.  He is also one of three BPI Certified Technicians able to perform HES (Home Energy SolutionSM) Assessments through CL&P and Energize CT.

Samantha accompanied Rick on service calls and could be found helping out on the weekends cutting oil tanks.  She joined the family business part time in 2009, and became a full time employee in 2010.  Sam now handles all the marketing and advertising for the company, heads the HES (Home Energy SolutionSM) Program through CL&P and Energize CT, and is also one of three BPI Certified Technicians able to perform these assessments.

The newest members to the R&W Crew include Mike K., who came on board in 2012.  Mike is a BPI Certified Technician performing HES (Home Energy SolutionSM) Assessments, with an extensive background in building science he obtained through over 30 years as a carpenter and general contractor.

Caitlin joined our office team in 2012 with over 9 years of experience in customer service.  She handles the majority of scheduling and the coordination of all oil to gas conversions.

Mike K. has also joined us in 2014 with 7+ years experience in the HVAC field.  He holds a Limited Journeyman License and specializes in residential heating.
